• Virginia Summer Delights…for the Chef in You!

Did you know there are a total of 37 Farmers Markets in Hampton Roads?  Homemade organic delicacies and culinary gems are difficult to find and sometimes only available in these markets. Some of those rare handed down family recipes or interesting new creations that are not yet patented are hard to copy without that special tweak only the maker can apply! The food is amazing and fresh, crafted by hand from scratch.

In the summer season in Virginia, the fruits with the best flavor are apples, Asian pears, asparagus, beets, blackberries, blueberries, broccoli, cabbage, cantaloupes, nectarines, peaches,… the list is long. It is smart and recommended to buy fruit and vegetables when they are in season, so they can reach their best flavor and full taste when they are ripened and ready to eat. Virginia has a wide variety of yummy fruit and veggies to offer all year round as well, such as cucumbers, eggplant, and green beans. Our Chef at Robin’s Nest, Donna, uses Virginia vegetables as often as she can in her recipes, sometimes purchasing ingredients the morning of her creations for the lunch specials. Here are just some locations of markets in Virginia Beach that are well worth a visit. Please share with us any others that you like to visit!

    • Old Beach Farmer’s Market on 620 19th St

A couple of great day trips can take you to great markets on Saturday mornings in Smithfield and on the Outer Banks in Manteo. Virginia is gaining a great reputation for its wines.
