    National Nutrition Month® is held every year in March, and it focuses attention on the importance of making the best food choices and developing positive eating choices.  It also focuses us on the importance of physical fitness and fully taking charge of your health.

    Once again, US News & World Report ranked the Mediterranean Diet at the top of the list of best diets with its emphasis on fruits, vegetables, olive oil, fish and other healthy foods.  Where better to sample healthy foods than Robin’s Nest Café where you can lead the way with a myriad of healthy fruits and vegetables?

    Five Onion Soup is on the menu every day, the soup specials change daily, and there will be “surprise” spring soups during the month.  Just a few of the amazing vegetable-based soups offered at the Café are Cream of Asparagus, Herb Tomato Cheddar, Southern Vegetable, Split Pea, Spring French, Loaded Potato, Cream of Roasted Pumpkin, Onion, Vichyssoise (basically, potato-onion), Cream of Broccoli, and more.  With the weather so unpredictable, can you imagine having a bowl of one of these delectable vegetable- based soups, with a chunk of crusty, chewy bread, or a half-sandwich, even on a warm spring day? Delectable!

    The specials often include fresh fruits, especially strawberries this time of year. Also, on the menu are assorted salads with many “fixings,” a vegetarian platter, healthy hummus, and vegetable and vegan platters are on the catering menu.

    If you think you don’t like vegetables, try roasting them at home in the oven with olive oil, garlic, and finish off with a touch of salt. Roasting brings out the sweetness, and you’ll find out what you’ve been missing all these years! And try roasting fruit chunks on the grill!
