During the winter season, it is a great time to keep warm with a bowl of soup. Combining various ingredients in a large pot to create a nutritious and delicious meal is something human beings have been doing for millennia.

Historical evidence of the existence of soup dates all the way back to about 20,000 B.C. after the invention of a waterproofed container. But the word “soup” itself derives from the French word “soupe” which means soup or broth. Sacré bleu!

Because of the great variety of vegetables incorporated into many soups, vegetable soup can provide a significant amount of vitamins and minerals. Soups contain macronutrients and are low in calories, fat and carbohydrates, as well, depending upon the ingredients! The most popular soups are Vegetable, Tomato, Minestrone, Black Bean, Chicken Vegetable, Miso, and Turkey. Adding any of these soups to your diet can be beneficial for your health.

Robin’s Nest Café offers a variety of soups including Five Onion, Cioppino (San Francisco Seafood), Minestrone, Chicken Rice, and a Black Bean Beef Chili.

So, watch for the “Daily Lunch on the Go” which very often includes a yummy, homemade soup in addition to a half sandwich!
